I tried so hard to help you But you stay hidden in dirt You say your words don't define you That don't mean that they won't hurt Again and again you say I am the one Who knocks, knocks you down Why can't you see that you're the one who pushes away I tried to find a purpose A way that this could work But you stay content in darkness Blinded by your worst Again and again you say I am the one Who knocks, knocks you down Why can't you see that you're the one who pushes away The thought of you runs through me It stays and haunts my heart But you won't let go of your anger And you let it tear us apart Again and again you say I am the one Who knocks, knocks you down Why can't you see that you're the one who pushes away Again and again you say I am the one Who knocks, knocks you down Why can't you see that I'm the one who chose to stay

I don't understand Why'd you change? We had a plan All arranged Then you chose to go a different way I didn't have a choice No I didn't have a say We've grown apart Since your change of heart We've grown apart Since your change of heart You act differently Than you once did Back when we were friends How I loved it Then you chose to go a different way I didn't have a choice No I didn't have a say We've grown apart Since your change of heart We've grown apart Since your change of heart Find me a way to move on without you Find me a way to move on without you We've grown apart Since your change of heart We've grown apart Since your change of heart

The Fall 03:17
She said, “I want it all. Skip the springtime, bring the fall. I want to be with the yellow leaves, Yeah, they don't come easily.” She said, “I want it all. Money, kids and a man so tall. So skip the springtime, bring the fall. Yeah, they don’t come easily.” It’s all the same Working with the time that you are given You are given Oh no She said, “I lost it all. I bit the apple, brought on the fall. Paradise never looked so small And it’s lost too easily.” It’s all the same Working with the time that you are given You are given Oh no Lord said, “You can’t have it all. You skip the springtime, quicken the fall. Move too fast and you’ll miss my call And I don’t call easily. No, I don’t call easily.” She said, “I want it all.” She said, “I gotta have it all.” Don’t you know you’ll bring on the fall? And it don’t stop easily. No, it don’t stop easily.

Whispers stay on her trail As she goes home to check the mail Whispers stay on her trail. Whispers sing to her as she sleeps All those secrets that she keeps Whispers sing to her as she sleeps Her mind swims through the ocean of Gossip that she hears Everyone’s burdens and their worries And all their silly fears Drowning ear to ear It’s such a shame, yeah she knows All the lies will start to grow And turn into the truth in time Whispers change into a shout When she tries to block them out They’ll creep back into her mind One at a time Whispers turn all her friends Into enemies again Whispers turn all her friends Whispers sing to her as she sleeps All those secrets that she keeps Whispers sing to her as she sleeps Her mind swims through the ocean of Gossip that she hears Everyone’s burdens and their worries And all their silly fears Drowning ear to ear It’s such a shame, yeah she knows All the lies will start to grow And turn into the truth in time Whispers change into a shout When she tries to block them out They’ll creep back into her mind One at a time

Great Escape 04:12
You can’t face the way you are You hide behind those walls I tried to balance all the pieces But they always seem to fall You’re scared of losing what you have Look at what it’s cost you Suffering and the weight of grief Is this what you want? Oh, you’ve planned a great escape Well, that door’s always been there for you Oh, you’ve found a different way Go down that road if you have to You say you feel like you’re trapped Like you’re going nowhere fast Well, I can’t say I feel bad Your story’s not that sad There is something you need to know Before you choose to go You put yourself before everyone You say you love Oh, you’ve planned a great escape Well, that door’s always been there for you Oh, you’ve found a different way Go down that road if you have to Oh, you’ve planned a great escape Well, that door’s always been there for you Oh, you’ve turned and walked away Go down that road, if you have to

Repentance 02:00
I push away all of my friends And when I do that, I’m alone again It’s such a shame when I think I’m right I pit all my loved ones against my pride You took the short road and when you got back You weren’t even tired, you smiled in fact I took the long road and dealt with my pain Oh, how ironic that I’m still the same ‘Cause I, I tried to change the way I am And I, I tried to change Oh, Mr. Preacher, I might make you scream But you won’t get any repentance from me I’ve fallen too far, oh can’t you see? Heaven ignores my calls, blissfully ‘Cause you, you tried to change the way I am And I, I tried to change Get on a boat and sail far away Find me place where I can be this way Help me to fight the urge to change I push away all of my friends And when I do that, I’m alone again It’s such a shame when I think I’m right I pit all my loved ones against my pride You took the short road and when you got back You weren’t even tired, you smiled in fact I took the long road and dealt with my pain Oh, how ironic that I’m still the same

about

These songs were written in a small, studio apartment on Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, Oregon during a year-long hiatus from our home state of California. It was a journey well spent.

The Hopeful Giants Riverside, California

The Hopeful Giants are a three-piece, indie folk band from the Inland Empire composed of husband and wife, Ryan and Kelly Skove, and long time friend Greg Kent.

Cut from the same cloth as the Lumineers, Bright Eyes, and SaintSenneca, The Hopeful Giants bring a simplicity and straight-forwardness to their music, writing modern folk ballads with easy to sing melodies.
